DGIST Holds 'AI Utilization Contest' … Integrates into Lectures to Develop AI Ecosystem

- Exploring practical uses of AI across all areas of research, education, and administration - Creating a ‘DGIST-type AI circular ecosystem to spread AI applications into education

□ DGIST (President Lee Kun-woo) announced that it held the ‘Final Presentation of the AI Utilization Contest’ in the E7 Grand Auditorium at DGIST on November 4, and shared practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) across various fields, including research, education, and administration. This event aimed to enhance the AI utilization skills of DGIST members and foster the development of a ‘DGIST-type AI circular ecosystem’ by connecting presentation content with AI lectures.

□ The AI Utilization Contest was announced in July and lasted about four months. Examples of using AI tools in work or research were gathered from all members of DGIST, including faculty, researchers, students, and staff. In the final presentation, 13 people, from professors to undergraduates, showcased how they use AI.

□ The presenters demonstrated real-life applications, such as creating educational materials, automated coding, schedule management, as well as legislation drafting using various generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub Copilot.

□ A student who participated in the contest expressed his interest and willingness to utilize AI, saying, “I realized that various AI tools can be used in many fields, including learning. I want to use AI more actively from now on.”

□ DGIST Vice President for Research Shin Gyeong-ho said, “The AI era creates an environment where anyone can become an expert if they are handy with tools available to them. We will continue to expand the circular ecosystem where the experience of solving problems using AI naturally leads to education and research.”

□ DGIST plans to develop educational content that utilizes AI tools based on the winning entries and incorporate them into the ‘Lectures on Future Knowledge’ provided to all undergraduate students starting from the first semester of 2026. This aims to enhance the practical AI skills of undergraduates from the basic educational stages. Additionally, DGIST is considering producing an ‘AI Utilization Casebook’ based on the results of this contest, displaying the winning entries, and holding seminars in conjunction with other events within the institute.
