A pioneer in the field of gender and development, Professor Sen has been an inspiration to a generation of researchers, policy-makers, and activists around the world. She holds the Sir Ratan Tata Chair at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, and is one of the world’s leading thinkers on women’s reproductive health. Her recent work includes research and policy advocacy on the gender implications of globalization and economic liberalization, the gender dimensions of population policies, and the links between population and the environment.
IDRC is proud to be associated with Professor Sen as she spearheads one of our funded projects, "Integrating gender and equity in health research and policy in India." Researchers involved in this initiative aim to pilot-test innovations, reframe existing policy, and advocate for better services to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality, and violence against women.
