□ The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST; President Kunwoo Lee) held a ceremony at the Convention Hall on MM DD, YYYY (Thursday) to celebrate its anniversary. This event was attended by distinguished guests, such as DGIST Chairperson Jintaek Chung and Daegu MBC President Oejin Hwang, and DGIST faculty, staff members, and students.
□ Plaques of appreciation were presented at the event to long-serving faculty and staff members, and rewards were given to members who had contributed to the development of DGIST. DGIST celebrates its anniversary each year to encourage the hard work of its faculty and staff members, who have put in a lot of effort for the school, and to boost their morale.
□ “Despite its smaller size and shorter history, DGIST has proven itself as a ‘young’ institute based on our strong solidarity and ambition,” said President Kunwoo Lee. “We will become the university that the country and society need and stand tall in the world with innovation and challenge amid change and crisis.”
□ Since its establishment in 2004, DGIST has become the only interdisciplinary education and research center in Korea. In particular, DGIST has proven itself in interdisciplinary education since it opened its first undergraduate program in 2013. Recently, three of the first undergraduate graduates were appointed as professors at major Korean universities, demonstrating that DGIST’s interdisciplinary education resulted in outstanding achievements. DGIST has also been recognized worldwide for its research excellence, ranking fourth in the world and first in Korea under the category of “citations per faculty” in QS World University Rankings.
□ In the future, DGIST plans to focus on the flagship research areas that will tackle the challenges of future society, such as physical AI, human digital twins, and quantum sensing. Based on these efforts, the university will flourish as a leading global research institute that transcends the boundaries of technology, tackles the problems faced by humanity, and creates social value.
