Dr. Fabien Grasset
Dr Fabien Grasset is a Research Director at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) in France and currently serving as Director of Research for Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR). His areas of expertise include materials chemistry, solid-state chemistry, nanotechnology, nanoparticles, optical coatings and thin films.
He was previously the Director for LINK, an International Research Laboratory at the Saint-Gobain-CNRS-NIMS International Collaboration Center in Japan. From 2008 to 2012, he was elected to the National Committee of CNRS.
Dr Grasset completed his Ph.D. degree in solid-state chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of Bordeaux, France, and the Bordeaux Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry (ICMCB). He studied magnetic nanoparticles for nanobiotechnology during his postdoctoral stay at ICMCB before taking on a Postdoctoral Fellowship on functional nanoparticles at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan. He joined the University of Rennes 1 (UR1) as assistant professor in 2001, becoming an associate professor later. He worked at its Glass and Ceramics lab before moving to the Solid-State Chemistry and Materials Group at UMR6226 ISCR in 2016.
Dr. Grasset has been Principal Investigator on several industrial projects and for projects under the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR). He is project coordinator for DUVNANO, which aims to find simple processes for the fabrication of functional thin films, and is involved in CLIMATE, which aims to develop infrared-selective materials for energy savings. He was also project coordinator for CLUSTOP, which sought to develop multifunctional nanoparticles for biomedical applications
He has published over a hundred papers and is a member of the editorial board for several journals such as Science and Technology of Advanced Materials, Heliyon, Nanomaterials, and Nanomanufacturing.
