Animation and Digital Arts year 2 student, Yuen Wing-ki said: “This medal represents the reward for years of training. I overcame serious challenges in my personal situation and sporting life with the active encouragement from my coach and teammates, as well as the generous support provided by Lingnan University, which helped me focus fully on training and competing in peak condition. My passion for table tennis remains unchanged. I truly believe that a strong, steady belief eventually leads to good result.”
Yuen Wing-ki suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, but this has not diminished her dedication to table tennis. In recent years, she has achieved excellent results in international competitions, including placing third in the ITTF Asian Para Championships 2025, Mixed Doubles XD10.
Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, praised the athletes’ outstanding performances, saying “The 15th National Games is the country’s most important and largest national multi-sport event. Our students have shown great determination and achieved personal bests in the competitions, and demonstrated the valuable ‘blood-red and iron-grey’ spirit of Lingnan. The University remains determined to help student-athletes achieve a balanced development in both their academic and athletic pursuits. We will continue to encourage more students to pursue their sporting dreams, cultivate resilience through their athletic spirit, and contribute to our country’s goal of building a leading sports nation.”
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) provided full support to students competing in the 15th National Games and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games. The University has increased its assistance and care, and OSA maintains close contact with elite student-athletes, fully understanding their needs and problems during preparation, and providing comprehensive, personalised support services to help them balance academic studies and sport. The University also works closely with academic departments to offer flexible assessment and class attendance arrangements, enabling athletes to maintain a rewarding educational experience while competing. Lingnan provides professional physiotherapy to help athletes stay in the best possible condition and avoid harm, offering treatment as well as targeted training plans to improve performance, reduce the risk of injury, and fulfil their potential.
Lingnan University is represented by eight elite student-athletes competing in a total of 17 events at the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games. Spanning events including Road Cycling, Track Cycling, Tennis, Rowing, Taekwondo, Physically-disabled Tennis, and Boccia, demonstrating Lingnan’s outstanding sporting achievements.
Another elite student-athlete Ng Chi-hang won the silver medal in Mixed BC 1/2 Team Event with his teammates in the Canberra 2025 World Boccia Challenger.
