Dr. St-Hilaire is associate head and professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health, City University of Hong Kong (CityU). She has extensively researched fish nutrition and diseases, including treatment efficacy, and has helped investigate fish disease outbreaks. Currently, she and her colleagues at CityU are studying how to fight antimicrobial resistance in aquaculture environments by reducing bacterial and antibiotic levels through improved filtration systems and coating materials.

Before joining CityU, she was a Canada Research Chair (Integrated Health Research for Sustainable Aquaculture) at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island and an associate professor at Idaho State University (U.S.). She has also worked for a number of government agencies dedicated to fisheries in Canada, the UK, and Chile.
