For the past decade, the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Faculty of Medicine has promoted an all-rounder undergraduate medical programme that includes a Special Study Module (SSM) which integrates medical research as part of the students' curriculum. The Medical Undergraduates' Annual Scientific Research Meeting (MUASRM) is held at the end of SSM to give a platform for all the final year medical students to present their research findings to the audience from and outside of UKM including representatives from other local universities.
This year at the 11th MUASRM, a total of 32 groups, each supervised by esteemed researchers from Faculty of Medicine, UKM, will put forward the fruitful outcome of their research via oral or poster presentation, along with students from 10 invited local universities. To instil a spirit of academic competition among aspiring future doctors, UKM Faculty of Medicine together with other notable figures in the scientific field will be invited to assess and adjudicate the presentations of each group, and the best research will be rewarded and honoured accordingly.
The theme for this year “Fostering Young Intellectuals for a Better Future” comes at a time when people realize that the importance of igniting the burning passion of young intellectuals in the field of medical and scientific research in this new era in order to survive a better future. Hence the mission of MUASRM 2019 is to generate and disseminate the cutting-edge knowledge for the benefits of students and society. We are humble to have a panel of judges and scientific committee to assist us.
The keynote speaker is YBRS. PROF. DATO’ DR. RUSZYMAH BT HJ IDRUS, a dynamic and pioneering researcher in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in Malaysia. She is the Professor of Physiology at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia). She is also the Head of the Tissue Engineering Center at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center. She is the founder President of the Tissue Engineering Society of Malaysia (TESMA) and a Council Member of the TERMIS-AP Chapter when it was first initiated.
