Members of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) visit The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) arranged a visit to FRIM for members of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) on 6 August 2009, in response to a request by FMM Council Member Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Soong Siew Hoong.

The group of 37 delegates representing various Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) was greeted by Deputy Director General (Research) Y. Bhg. Dato’ Dr Abdul Rashid Ab. Malik, Forest Products Division Director Dr Mohd Nor Mohd. Yusoff and several senior officers.

The aim of the visit was to inform the FMM delegates of R&D findings ready for commercialisation and the various facilities, services and resources available in FRIM.

Dato’ Dr Abdul Rashid gave a briefing on FRIM, followed by presentations on topics identified by FMM including on bamboo by Dr Hamdan Husain, kenaf and oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) by Mr Mahmudin Saleh and potential use of Jatropha for biofuels by Dr Wan Asma Ibrahim.

The group also visited the Kepong Botanic Garden where three Canaga odorata trees were planted to commemorate the visit.
