Dialogue with Herbal Industry

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia has successfully conducted a “Dialogue with the Herbal Industry” on 15 October 2009.

A total of 81 representatives from the private sector took part in this event. The objective of the one-day programme, held at the FRIM Auditorium in Kepong and officiated by FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd. Latif Mohmod, was to provide opportunities for herbal entrepreneurs to meet representatives of government agencies dealing with the industry to discuss various issues and concerns including quality, safety and halal standards, as well as the latest approach to development of herbal-based products.

The programme included talks by representatives of the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau, the Health Ministry’s Food Safety and Quality Division and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

There were also be presentations of FRIM’s research and development (R&D) activities, technologies, findings and servicesby FRIM Medicinal Plant Division Director Dr Rasadah Mat Ali and Commercialisation and Incubation Branch Head Mr Azman Hassan, followed by the dialogue session chaired by FRIM’s Deputy DG (Research), Dato’ Dr Abd Rashid Ab. Malik.
