A Special Award and 4 Gold for UPM at INNOVA 2009

5 researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) proudly bagged a special award, 4 gold and 1 silver at the INNOVA ENERGY 2009 international exhibition held here recently.

The special award given by the Belgium Ministry of Defence was conferred to Prof. Ir. Dr. Norman Mariun with his product, Linear Displacement Sensor Using Meander Coil and Pattern Guide which is also a project under the supervision of Dr. Norhisam Misron.

The second gold medal went to Dr. Siti Mazlina Mustapa Kamal with her Fruits Grater and Peeler a three-functional device that eases the hassle of grating, peeling and cutting of fruits. The automatic device is a fruition of Dr. Siti Mazlina and her fellow researchers.

Wan Zuha Wan Hasan walked away with the third gold for her product, Software Tool - A Fault Syndrome Simulator for Functional Faults of Static Random Access Memories (RAM) a software invention for finding algorithm that can simultaneously detect error in RAM.

Dr. In. Ahmad Fauzi Abas with Duty Cycle Division Multiplexing Increasing Optical Fiber Capacity Utilization won the final gold where he invented a method to transmit high-speed data in cost-savvy communication via fibre optic.

Out of 400 products from 30 countries contested, Malaysia had submitted 38 products represented by five public institutions of higher education and each from private institution and research institute respectively.
