Amirrudin the Merdeka Oratory Champion

A 3rd year student from the Bachelor of Education (TESL) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Amirrudin Abdul Rahman done the University proud by winning the Independence Oratory Championship of IPTA 2009 and what makes it even special was the fact that he bagged a title under the Bahasa Melayu category.

Amiruddin excitedly expressed his joy of winning the title, for the wait has been long overdue. He disclosed that the previous years he had to give in to fellow oratory champion, Mohd. Syamsul Salleh, who is also UPM’s pride.

“As for this year, the battle was nothing but competitive as no top seeded orators were listed out of 21 contestants,” said Amiruddin, who aspires to win the International Bahasa Melayu Oratory Championship in 2010.

Apart from winning the title for this year alone, Amiruddin has bagged three other top prizes at the intervarsity level namely, the Rakan Muda Youth Oratory, Peniti V Leadership Oratory and the Student & Safety Oratory.

The programme, hosted by Tuanku Abdul Rahman Foundation, Malaysian University Debate Council (MADUM) and International Islamic University (IIUM) also sponsored the cash prize of RM5,000, a challenge trophy, accompanying trophies and certificates of participation.

Also seen at the event were Rector of IIUM, Profesor Datuk Seri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid and Chairman of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation, Dr. Tengku Abdul Aziz Tengku Zainal.
