The Official Results Of UPM’s Campus Election

The official result of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) campus election session 2009/2010 witnessed the dissolution of several candidates’ victory due to breaching of campaign etiquette stipulated for student representatives council (MPP) election.

Out of 99 overall candidates, the official result, which was announced at 11 a.m, on 29th of January witnessed 16 independent candidates and 32 faculties’ camp the victory with 48 seats.

A couple of seats represented by candidates Siti Nur Fathirah Adnan and Ahmad Qadri Basri@Boseri from the Faculty of Design and Architecture, were clinched uncontested.

Vice Chancellor of UPM, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah commented on the efficiency of this year’s process has proven the maturity of our students on the foundation of democracy practiced in MPP’s election.

“It is my great hope that new MPPUPM front will progress towards achieving the University’s vision and mission apart from prioritizing students’ welfare including the improvement of academic and soft skills,” he addressed during the announcement made on January 26th recently.

From 8a.m. till 5p.m. on the 26th of January, a number of 12,873 (88.8 percent) out of 14,494 students from Serdang campus and 621 (61 percent) out of 1,018 students in Bintulu campus set out to designated zones to cast their votes.

Nurul Raihan Abu Samah from the Faculty of Human Ecology scored the highest votes with 7,855 ballots against other 47 candidates.

The e-voting system has entered its 7th year and applied as the election system positioned by the Head Committee at 6 different voting zones, Putra 1 Hall (Thirteenth College), Harmoni Hall (Fifth College), Putra 2 Hall (College of Serumpun), Examination Hall 1 (Faculty of Engineering), Computer Laboratory 2 (Faculty of Medicines and Health Sciences) and Sri Rajang College (Bintulu Campus).

Each faculty allocated two seats and 16 seats are for independent candidates.
