UPM Clinched First Title for Double Ranking Category: Webometrics and 4icu.org University Web Ranking

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) beat other local universities and emerged top in the Webometrics Ranking Web of World Universities and 4icu.org University Web Ranking.

Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah said under the South East Asia Webometrics Ranking, UPM sits at the 11th spot, followed by USM at 13th, UTM at 14th and UM at 16th. As for Asia, UPM is ranked 81st and secures the 686th world ranking out of 8,000 evaluated universities.

As for 4icu.org University Web Ranking under the Top 100 Universities and Colleges in Asia, UPM is one of the three listed Malaysian universities sitting at 52 followed by USM at 74th and UIAM at 79th spot.

“Dubbed as the popularity ranking for universities and colleges around the world, this allows international students to identify esteemed varsities based on the web presence,” he said.

Webometric’s Ranking is done by Cybermetrics Lab, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) a public scientific research in Spain that is founded on web presence, looking at visibilities and the activities indicating the universities’ good impact as well as the prestige.

Director of InfoComm Development Centre (iDEC) UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhaimi Napis said the Webometrics is not merely a web ranking but a ranking that stipulates global performance of UPM in committing to teaching, research, internationalization, community and industrial relations.

As for 4icu.org University Web Ranking, it is done based on an algorithm terdiri of three independent web metrics extracted from Google Page Rank, Yahoo Inbound Links and Alexa Traffic Rank.
