Through the MOU, both parties look forward to cooperate by sharing expertise as well as available testing facilities to serve their clients more effectively.
The signing ceremony was held at the SIRIM headquarters in Shah Alam, with the FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd. Latif Mohmod representing the Malaysian Forestry Research and Development Board (MFRDB) and Managing Director Puan Khalidah Hj. Mustafa for SIRIM QAS International
Also present to witness the signing were SIRIM QAS International Chairman Ir. Hj Yahaya Ahmad (also SIRIM Berhad President and Chief Executive Officer), FRIM Deputy DG (Operations) Dr Abdul Rahim Nik, Forest Products Division Director Dr Mohd Nor Mohd Yusoff and Biocomposite & Wood Protection Programme Head Dr Rahim Sudin.
FRIM Director General, Datuk Dr Abd. Latif Mohmood said the MOU was timely as the institute strives to provide the best possible service in the testing and certification of forest industry products as well as the verification of local timber products' quality for both the local and foreign markets.
This is especially important considering that there are many trade barriers, requiring Malaysian timber products to comply with standards set by importing countries such as FACS, JAS, JIS, CE Marks, CARB and others, he added.
