He said that although the country continues to thrive and grow in different ways, efforts to accord the Malay language should be further intensified, and this can be done with the production of more Malay publications.
"We are encouraged to learn more than one language. But let's not forget the Malay language.Unfortunately, some Malays themselves belittle, insult and do not believe in the language. They are ashamed to read books in the Malay language in public, ashamed to show Malay newspapers and other Malay reading. Thus, our Malay cultural roots become increasingly marginalized, " he said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the National Seminar on High Noble Nations Languages, Lecture Hall A, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
The one-day seminar was jointly organized by the School of Humanities, USM, Penang Professionals Association, the National Heritage Department, Oxford University Press and Associations Culture and Arts in Penang.
In the same ceremony, Assoc. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) representing the USM Vice-Chancellor in his speech said the university looks serious aspects of strengthening Malay language through a number of specific efforts underway in the university for a long time.
"The university will continue to do various activities to defend the sovereignty of the Malay language, through the publication of the agenda. But more importantly than that, all parties need to wake up and take the challenge to uphold the Malay language, " he said.
In the same ceremony, the President of Penang has launched four new publications entitled USM and employees to engineer the University: Biography of the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malay Achieve Star, Northern Malaysia-essay essay Heritage and Heritage northern region of Peninsular Malaysia.

Teo Kok Seong from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Dr. Fadzilah Amzah, Secretary, Association of Educators Malay and Assoc. Sohaimi Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Dean (Research and Graduate Studies), School of Humanities, USM.
