UPM Launched Research Collaboration with Sunzen Biotech Berhad

SERDANG, 25th Nov – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and a leading company Sunzen Biotech Berhad agreed on academic collaboration in research and development involving animal health products (R&D).

SERDANG, 25th Nov – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and a leading company Sunzen Biotech Berhad agreed on academic collaboration in research and development involving animal health products (R&D).

UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah informed the media that the collaboration will focus on food safety, farm sanitation, pollution abatement and immunity enhancement related fields.

“The collaboration between UPM and Sunzen dated back three decades ago in 1978 through the production of a research project entitled Disease Investigation, Control and Treatment of Coccidiosis in Chickens, followed by seven research projects to date.

“The R&D outcome is potentially commercialized and hoped to benefit both parties,” he mentioned in a speech prior to the signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding (MoU) held at the administration building of UPM recently.

With great optimism, he reminded both parties to double the effort collectively in escalating their performance. He hoped that innovative ideas can be explored by the assistance of our expertise and research conduct hence the products will be able to be commercialized by them.

The memorandum was signed by Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah representing UPM and Sunzen Biotech Berhad entrusted its Managing Director, Dr. Tan Kim Sing and witnessed by Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmad Fateh Mohamed and Executive Director of Sunzen Biotech Berhad, Dr. Kok Poe Chu.

The agreement is assigned for five years period with option to renew for an additional five years.

Six faculty members involved in the R&D are Prof. Dr. Aini Ideris, Prof. Dr. Mohd Hair Bejo, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Idrus, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Loh Tech Chwen, Dr. Zunita Zakaria and Dr. Goh Yoh Meng.

Dr. Tan Kim Sing told the media that Sunzen is looking forward to a productive cooperation with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine especially in the teaching and learning R&D of undergraduate and post graduate students.

“Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Sunzen Biotech Berhad must steadfastly hone the collaboration in order to produce R&D that is of high quality thus enhancing former collaborations,” he added.
