Prof. Dr. Mohd Adzir Mahdi wins COMSTECH Young Scientist Award

A professor from the Department of Computer and Communication Systems, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Adzir Mahdi had been awarded COMSTECH Young Scientist Award.

The award was made in conjunction with the General Assembly meeting of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH).

The Young Scientist Award is for scientists under the age of 40 years who have significantly contributed in the field of science and technology. The selection of the award recipient is based on criteria such as publications (impact factor, number of citation), publications (Research papers in ISI journals, books, conference papers), patents, research grants and also based on awards and recognitions.

Prof. Dr. Adzir receives USD3,000 cash prize, an award plaque and a certificate of achievement from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gillani as Co-Chairman COMSTECH in conjunction of The Fourteenth Session General Assembly Meeting of COMSTECH/OIC was held at Islamabad, Pakistan on 11-13 January 2011.

COMSTECH also awarded COMSTECH Award in Biology to Prof. Dr. Wasim Ahmad (Pakistan) and Prof. Dr. Ilkay Erdagon Orhan (Turki) and COMSTECH Award in Chemistry to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary (Pakistan) and Prof. Yusuf Yagci (Turki). Meanwhile COMSTECH Best Research Paper Award was conferred to Dr. Farhad Islami from Iran.

These awards are expected to foster a healthy competition among the researchers of the OIC region and enhance one’s advancement in science and technology that would lead to nationally competitive environment resulting in collective development of the OIC region.
