Singapore has two first-authored and four co-authored papers accepted at International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) 2016

Singapore continues its good showing in the field of integrated circuits (IC) research and will present two papers, from the Institute of Microelectronics (IME) A*STAR and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), at ISSCC 2016.

1. Singapore, 20 November 2015 – The International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) today holds its press conference for ISSCC 2016. Singapore continues its good showing in the field of integrated circuits (IC) research and will present two papers, from the Institute of Microelectronics (IME) A*STAR and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), at ISSCC 2016. Singapore also co-authored four papers accepted by ISSCC 2016.

2. ISSCC is the flagship conference for the field of integrated circuits and systems design and is the leading international platform for presenting the latest technological breakthroughs with state-of-the-art performance in solid-state circuits and systems-ona-chip. ISSCC 2016 will present novel systems and circuits solutions to embrace the new lifestyles driven by connectivity and big data, with the theme of “SILICON SYSTEMS for the INTERNET OF EVERYTHING.”

3. We now live in a world where every person and device is rapidly becoming connected. This era of the Internet of Everything (IoE) is drastically changing how people and all things communicate and work together in intelligent processes. The IoE is creating unprecedented opportunities to fundamentally improve human life, while creating explosive growth in knowledge and wealth. Solid-state electronics serve as the foundation of IoE, including personal computing, smart sensors, intelligent networks, and data centers, all of which have solid-state circuits and systems at their core. Power efficiency and security are two key challenges for the future growth of IoE. ISSCC 2016 is seeking innovations in both circuits and systems to further advance IoE to enrich human life.

4. Singapore has a strong capability in the design of CMOS integrated circuits and systems for sensors, medical devices and communications, which are among the enabling technologies for new lifestyles driven by the IoE. This is demonstrated by the acceptance of two high-quality first-authored papers from Singapore and four coauthored papers through collaborations, which are listed below:

First-authored papers:
(1) “A 1.4V 10.5MHz Swing-Boosted Differential Relaxation Oscillator with 162.1dBc/Hz FOM and 9.86psrms Period Jitter in 0.18µm CMOS,” Institute of Microelectronics, Singapore, A*Star, Singapore, Daegu Gyeongbuk of Science and Technology, Korea, and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore
(2) “A Ku-Band 260mW FMCW Synthetic Aperture Radar TRX with 1.48GHz BW in 65nm CMOS for Micro-UAVs,” Nanyang Technological University of Singapore

Co-authored papers:
(1) “A 40/50/100Gb/s PAM-4 Ethernet Transceiver in 28nm CMOS,” Inphi Santa Clara, USA, Inphi Singapore, and Inphi, Irvine, USA.
(2) “A 20nm 2.5GHz Ultra-LowPower TriCluster CPU Subsystem with Adaptive Power Allocation for Optimal Mobile SoC Performance,” MediaTek, Austin, USA, MediaTek, Taiwan, MediaTek, Singapore, MediaTek, Bangalore, Inida, and MediaTek, San Jose, USA.
(3) “iRazor: 3-Transistor Current-Based Error Detection and Correction in an ARM Cortex-R4 Processor,” University of Michigan, USA and National University of Singapore
(4) “A Reconfigurable Dual-Port Memory with Error Detection and Correction in 28nm FDSOI,” University of Michigan, USA and National University of Singapore.

5. “Singapore is a fantastic place for an exciting industry. The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association is chartered to support and grow a strong research eco-system for IC Design here in Singapore. I am personally very proud to see the number of very high-profile research papers coming from renowned institutions and individuals in this area strengthening year after year,” said Mr. Ulf Schneider, President of Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA).

6. “Following the record high number of accepted papers from Singapore last year, we saw a steady increase in the number of submitted papers at ISSCC 2016. This indicates that the IC design R&D activities are growing in Singapore. We expect Singapore to play a more and more important role at ISSCC as well as in the world IC design industry.” said Professor Tsung-Hsien Lin, ISSCC Far East Regional Committee Chair.

7. “The IC design capability in Singapore has been continuously strengthened over the years. The two first-authored papers and the four co-authored papers from Singapore are the testimony of Singapore’s excellence in integrated circuit and system design. I believe Singapore will continue its excellent performance in future ISSCCs through collaborations among universities, research institutes, industry and international partners,” said Dr Tony Kim, IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society Singapore Chapter Chair.

8. ISSCC 2016 will take place in San Francisco from 31 January to 4 February 2016. For more information, please visit http://isscc.org/

About International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC)
International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) is the foremost forum for presentation of advances in solid-state circuits and systems. The Conference offers a unique opportunity for engineers working at the cutting edge of circuit design to learn of the latest advances, and to network with leading experts. It is referred to as the ‘Chip Olympics’, because this is where major organizations in the chip industry and academia unveil their record-breaking designs. Among submissions from all over the world, only about 200 top papers are selected for presentation and about 3,000 people from industry and academia attend the conference. The most important milestones in the integrated circuit and semiconductor history have been first presented at ISSCC for the last 60 years. The ISSCC 2016 will be held from January 31 to February 4, 2016 in San Francisco, CA, USA under the conference theme of “SILICON SYSTEMS for the INTERNET OF EVERYTHING.” For more information, visit http://isscc.org/
