Learner-centric pedagogy and creative spaces key to improving learner engagement in China

Shanghai, China, 8 Dec, 2015 – International and private schools across the world are quickly moving away from rote learning towards a more learner-centered, interactive and collaborative approach in order to improve learner engagement and learning outcomes.

These schools follow their own curriculum, but are not immune to influence by the surrounding culture and attitudes towards their academic approach. In Asia, a significant number of parents and teachers continue to believe in a direct relationship between a rigorous academic programme and quality of learning.

China, in particular, possesses a culture entrenched in scores-based teaching and learning.

Visionary educators, Professor Takaharu Tezuka, whose works include the acclaimed Fuji Kindergarten, and John Stewart, former head of school of the award-winning Green School in Bali, have widely advocated and demonstrated how learner-centric pedagogy and creative spaces are key to improving learner engagement. They will be sharing their success stories with the international and private education community in China, as opening speakers at Next Generation Learning Spaces China, happening on 9-10 March 2016, in Shanghai.

Distinguished speakers also include Chinese pioneers in learner-centric pedagogy, Professor Zhu-Zhi Ting from East China Normal University, and Mr. Liang Senshan from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

Next Generation Learning Spaces makes its way to China following a successful series of learning spaces events in the US, Australia, and most recently in Singapore. School leaders and educators from across the country will gather to learn from leading case studies and engage in discussion on pressing issues such as fostering critical and creative thinking and ensuring that technology is “fit for purpose”.
