Novel Technology of Shielding Textiles against High Energy Rays

Safe, flexible, and recoverable x-ray protective products.

A new technique to produce a greener x-ray protection clothing will benefit workers using x-ray facilities including doctors and nurses.

Researchers at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has developed a new technique that uses novel green materials to manufacture safe and recoverable fibers, curtains and garments shielding high energy rays, based on common equipment of melt spinning and melt blowing. There protective products are expected to replace existing rubber uniforms with lead particles, and bring great benefits to people using X-ray facilities.

Special Features and Advantages
• Safer & greener than existing lead-containing uniform
• Softer and more flexible than existing rubber uniform
• Recoverable to extend its life cycle

Applications
• Protective vest, apron, accessories where X-ray is used, e.g. hospital and clinics
• Portable X-ray shielding curtains, e.g. airport security channel, nuclear power station
