DGIST Signs MOU with Daegu Dowon High and Hamji High: “To Foster Future Science and Technology Talent”

- Joint educational cooperation with Dowon High School and Hamji High School in Daegu to foster students excelling in science - Embarking on nurturing future regional science and technology talent through tailored support for science-focused schools

□ Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST: President Lee Kunwoo) announced that its Convergence Talent Academy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dowon High School and Hamji High School, two public science-focused high schools in the Daegu region. The goal is to embark on joint educational cooperation to foster local science talent and cultivate future convergence-oriented talent.

□ This agreement aims to build a future-oriented educational environment and contribute to the development of the nation and local community by identifying and nurturing outstanding local students. It focuses on combining the university’s excellent research and educational capabilities with the on-site educational experience of public science-focused high schools to provide high school students with more in-depth research experiences and practical opportunities for studying science.

□ Under the agreement, DGIST and the two high schools plan to cooperate extensively in the following areas: (1) conducting joint research projects for the operation of science-focused schools and cultivation of students excelling in science, (2) operating scientific research mentoring programs, (3) establishing science-related group education and special lecture programs and providing support for instructors, and (4) other matters related to the mutual development of both institutions.

□ In particular, DGIST shall launch a high school research club program based on this agreement. Starting in March, students shall engage in in-depth study of the latest research through club activities during the school term. During school breaks, students shall participate in R/E (Research & Education) programs tailored to their future career paths under the guidance of professors at DGIST. These programs will further strengthen their problem-solving and research capabilities.

□ Seok Chang-won, dean of the DGIST Convergence Talent Academy, stated, “We will help students pursue practical scientific studies through close educational collaboration with local public science-focused high schools,” adding, “We will actively leverage the top-tier educational capabilities of DGIST, a research-oriented university, to foster creative and convergent local talent.”

□ Lee Chan-hee, principal of Hamji High School, remarked, “We are very pleased to jointly operate a science education program with DGIST, a world-class research institution.” He added, “We expect this program to provide our students with a solid foundation to experience a university-level research environment and grow into future scientists.”

□ DGIST is contributing to the cultivation of future science, technology, and AI talent by expanding science education in collaboration with the local community. Moving forward, it plans to further strengthen its role as a regional hub for fostering interdisciplinary talent through ongoing educational cooperation and the development of science study programs.
