- Takes the lead in global academic research into solar power - Leads the Korea Photovoltaic Society for one year starting in January 2025

□ Dr. Jaehyun Kim, Senior Researcher at the Division of Energy & Environmental Technology, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST; President Kunwoo Lee), has been appointed as the 12th President of the Korea Photovoltaic Society. The President serves a one-year term: from January to December 2025.

□ Since its inception in 2012, the Korea Photovoltaic Society has positioned itself as one of Korea’s most important photovoltaic academic organizations by informing researchers of international research trends and promoting academic information exchanges through the Global Photovoltaic Conference (GPVC), its annual international academic conference.

□ Dr. Kim, newly appointed as its President, earned his PhD in materials engineering at KAIST and worked at LG and Philips LCD. He currently serves as a Senior Researcher at DGIST. Furthermore, in pursuit of commercialization and popularization, he has conducted extensive research in the fields of photovoltaics, fusion devices, and energy storage devices for photovoltaics, and his research has been greatly appreciated in Korea and around the world. Lately, he has garnered attention for publishing the results of his research on safe solid-state electrolytes, which do not have a fire hazard, in international journals.

□ Dr. Kim said, “I will contribute to the development of academic research and science and technology in the field of solar power, which is one of the critical technologies for achieving RE100. I will remain fully committed to preparing for a successful hosting of the World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC-9), which will be held by the Korea Photovoltaic Society for the first time in Korea, and to establishing the GPVC’s standing as a conference by a world-class academic organization.”
