He Shiwei, a graduate of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Animation and Digital Arts programme and currently a student of the Master of Arts in Curating and Art History programme, has been studying in Hong Kong for six years. He comes from a family with a strong artistic background, and has been practising calligraphy and painting since he was a child. At the age of 12, he did a series of paintings of all 108 heroes from Water Margin, and since then has had two solo art exhibitions and designed the opening ceremony graphics for the Shenzhen Marathon. He said “I am sincerely grateful to Lingnan University for providing a practical platform, allowing me to turn my painting into tangible works of art, and to connect tradition and culture through digital art. Now I have an opportunity to hold a solo art exhibition at the Hakka Museum of China in my hometown, which will bridge the cultures of both places. This honour is not only an encouragement for me personally, but also a confirmation that art can empower society.’’
Lu Beian from Sichuan, a year 3 student in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Chinese programme, expressed deep gratitude for the award, and said “It has been over two years since I came from Sichuan to study at Lingnan University, and I have consistently worked at my comprehensive and multifaceted development, joining four student societies, being selected for the Outstanding Talented University Student Election, and winning the championship at the Lingnan–Yuanpei STEM Summer Academy in the STEM Roadshow Competition and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. These awards keep me grounded and help me to commit sincerely to every meaningful and valuable task, demonstrating the spirit that a student studying in Hong Kong should aspire to.”
