Second International Economics Conference: Economics of Higher Energy and Food Prices: Future Scenarios and Implications for Developing Economies

Although the conference theme is “Economics of Higher Energy and Food Prices: Future Scenarios and Implications for Developing Economies,” papers on any topic within the broad, general area of sustainable economic development will be considered.

The recent increases in the international prices of energy, mineral commodities and essential food items such as wheat and rice has increased economic stress in the global economy and particularly in resource importing developing countries. This conference intends to provide a platform for economists and other social scientists to present their research and discuss the nature, causes and effects of higher energy and food prices on different economies of the world. Priority will be given to papers with an emphasis on this theme and topics directly or indirectly related to this issue such as the role of speculators, the need and feasibility of creating international stocks of commodities, creation of funds to support worst effected countries, prospects for alternative sources of energy, energy saving mechanisms, improvements in agricultural technology, a more stable foreign exchange regime, etc.
