BARACK OBAMA’S INAUGURATION – The following experts on American politics are happy to talk to the media about Barack Obama’s inauguration on 20 January 2009 and the impact the Obama administration may have on Asia.

MIDDLE EAST – In January, there will be provincial election in Iraq, while in February, Iran celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Islamic revolution. The following experts have research experience in those countries and will be happy to talk to the media.

(1) Professor Tsugitaka Sato specialises in History of the Orient, namely West Asian History, Arab History, iqta‘, mamluk, sufi saint. His research include State and Society under the Iqta‘ System, Role of the Mamluks in Muslim society and Sugar in the Muslim Society and more.

(2) Professor Keiko Sakurai specialises on Comparative Sociology, Islamic Area Studies, Iranian Studies. In 2003, Prof Sakurai was awarded the International Cultural Research of the Year by the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance

CHINESE NEW YEAR – THE YEAR OF THE OX
Dr Ho Koon Wan, Acting Head for the Department of Chinese Culture at Hong Kong Polytechnic University will be happy to talk to journalists about Chinese New Year and The Year of the Ox. Dr Ho specialises in Sung studies. He has published two books plus a number of articles in this field. He is currently the Board Director of the China Association For Sung Dynasty Studies. He also co-edited one book on the Hong Kong studies.
