FRIM conducts media workshop for senior officers

A total of 30 researchers benefited from an in-house training workshop on “Understanding the Media” held at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) on 30 July 2009.

Organised by the FRIM Corporate Management with the support of the Training Branch, the aim of the one-day programme was to promote a better understanding of the media, and to equip them with some basic knowledge on the sorts of issues of interest to the press as well as tips on the “Dos and Don’ts” when dealing with the media.

Being a leading forestry research institute, FRIM has been conducting research and development activities, providing consultancy services and facilities to relevant industries as well as the public. Therefore, it is FRIM’s responsibility to ensure dissemination of its research findings and technology transfer, among others, for the benefit of the country.

The invited speakers were Liew Suet Fun (former PR consultant); Chong Cheng Hai (TheSun Managing Editor); Hemanathan Paul (The Production Manager of Entertainment, Recreation and Reality programmes for Primeworks Studio Sdn. Bhd.) and Environmental Journalist Hilary Chew.

FRIM Media Officer Toh An Nee also made a presentation on the FRIM Media Strategy, explaining the role of FRIM Corporate Management Branch, the functions of a media officer, the Do’s and Don’ts in dealing with journalists, ways to engage the media to ensure support as well as providing some case studies of the media-related activities undertaken so far.
