The aim of such a collaborative effort is to enhance the production of value-added products in the country; and to improve knowledge and expertise through project implementation, training and capacity building between the two parties.
The MOU was signed by FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd. Latif Mohmod and UMP Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dato’ Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim.
The signing ceremony held in conjunction with the opening of the Seminar on Biomass for Biofeuls and Value-Added Products 2009 at the Saujana Kuala Lumpur, was witnessed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Secretary General, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Zoal Azha Yusof.
The two-day seminar, themed “Towards Efficient Utilization of Biomass” and co-organised by FRIM and UMP, aimed to highlight potential use of biomass in the country; to discuss issues affecting biomass resources; and share latest R&D findings with the private sector, policy makers, industrialists and researchers.
Attended by 130 participants from 21 companies, 13 government agencies and 15 universities, the seminar also serves as a platform for researchers, industrialists and policy-makers to network and explore possible collaborations.
