PRIME MINISTER WITNESSES EXCHANGE OF MoU BETWEEN CCB USM-MARDI – BIOTECHCORP

The MoU signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the launching of BioMalaysia 2009 from 17-19 November 2009 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Nov: Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia today witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Centre for Chemical Biology, Universiti Sains Malaysia(CCBUSM), Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Sdn. Bhd. The aim of the Memorandum is to develop the national rubber industry and this follows USM’s success in decoding the rubber genome.

The MoU signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the launching of BioMalaysia 2009 from 17-19 November 2009 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

CCBUSM was represented by its Director, Prof. Maqsudul Alam while MARDI and Malaysia Biotechnology Corporation Sdn. Bhd. were represented by the Director General, Datuk Dr. Abd Shukor Abd. Rahman and the Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Iskandar Mizal Mahmood respectively.

Among others, the collaboration will look into the production of a new breed of rubber trees that are of better quality and capable of providing higher returns for the nation and the world rubber sector.

Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib also took the opportunity to view the innovations and research products of USM researchers exhibited at BioMalaysia 2009.
