USM health campus ISO certified

The USM Health Campus became fully fully ISO certified when it received the MS ISO 9001:2008 certification from Moody International today.

Meanwhile, USM Hospital (HUSM) and other Centres of Responsibility (PTJs) at the Health Campus and the School of Medical Sciences also received the MS ISO 9001:2008 certification from SIRIM Berhad for being upgraded as well as for recertification.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM Berhad, Ir. Haji Yahya Ahmad presented the cerificates personally to USM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak. The Vice-Chancellor subsequently presented the certificates to the respective departments.

The Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM) also received recertification from Moody International.

The Managing Director of Moody International Certification Malaysia Sdn. Bhd presented the certificates to the recipients.

Prior to this, the Vice-Chancellor deliever his 2010 Annual address to approximately 1000 USM staff. The theme of his speech was ‘Universiti APEX: Memperkukuhkan Asas’. At the same function, the Vice-Chancellor presented awards in conjunction with the Heaklth Campus Quality Convention 2009.

HEALTH CAMPUS HOSTS 6TH IPTA ICC CONVENTION

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) played host to the 6th Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) Innovative and Creative Circles (ICC) Convention held from 18-19 February, 2010. Ten Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) participated in the convention.

A total of 15 groups competed in the techical category while 17 groups competed in the management category.

Profesor Dato' Mafauzy, Director of the Health Campus, USM said, “the convention enables the staff to open their minds, in terms of creativity and innovation in their work and encourages them to think outside the box”.

The convention is held annually and each year a different IPTA is responsible for organising the event. The aim of the convention is to convince the authorities that the ideas from ICC will be able to help the Management of the IPTAs to resolve work-related problems and undertake continuous improvements.

Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, USM Vice-Chancellor described the convention as a platform to encourage the exchange of ideas, strengthen inter-IPTA relationships and health competition in creating a strong work culture that among the IPTAs.

The V-Time Group from the School of Health Sciences, USM was selected to receive the Best Innovation Award for the Management category. They won the award for their idea of using a digital clock during practical examinations as the present system of time management for practical examinations is not very efficient.

The project was implemented to overcome the problem of inefficiency in the time management system for practical examinations (OSPE) at the School of Health Sciences. This was because there were very few “Smith’s Clock” and also a shortage of laboratory staff. V-Time also won the Second Prize in the Management category.

The Charge Group from UKM was named Overall Champion for their idea,’Delay in Detecting Faulty Probes in Teaching Laboratories’.

Special Award: Hope Innovation Award –Synergy Group (UMP)

Champion (Management Category) – Transformation Group (UTM)

Technical Category –Charge Group (UKM)

Overall Champions –Charge Group (UKM)
