Chinese delegation visits FRIM to explore R&D collaboration

A delegation of seven from the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR), the People’s Republic of China visited FRIM on 1 April 2010.

The aim of the visit was to discuss the possibility of enhancing the research and development (R&D) cooperation between ICBR and FRIM, exploring feasible and practical collaboration areas for mutual benefits based on a Letter of Intent officially signed by both parties on 22 September 2006.

The Chinese delegation also comprised representatives from the China Bamboo Industrial Association, the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR), the International Centre of Forestry Cooperation, and the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia.

Madam Jiang Zehui who is the Director General ICBR and also the Vice Chairperson of China’s National Committee for Environment, Resources and Population (CPPCC) and her entourage were greeted by FRIM DG Dato’ Dr Abd. Latif Mohmod, Forestry and Environment Division Director Dr Shamsudin Ibrahim, Forest Products Division Director, Dr Mohd Nor Mohd Yusoff and several other senior researchers.

The FRIM DG gave the delegation a briefing on FRIM and its R&D activities related to bamboo and rattan, followed by a discussion between the two parties, and guided tour to the new FRIM Research Gallery.

A delegation of seven from the People’s Republic of China, led by the Director General (DG) of the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR), Madam Jiang Zehui, paid an official visit to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong on 1 April 2010.
