Special focus on front-line defense sensors

The December issue of Nature Immunology presents a Focus on special immune proteins that detect the presence of invading pathogens in various hosts. The Focus will go live on 16 November at http://www.nature.com/ni/focus/innateproteins/.

Four families of immune proteins, found in diverse organisms from plants to humans, are discussed in specially commissioned reviews and an overview. These proteins are required for rapid, protective immunity against bacteria and viruses.

Alongside the articles online, the Focus includes additional content, comprising classic papers, recent papers in the field published by the Nature Publishing Group, and highlights of newly published papers describing how these special immune proteins function in immunity to pathogens. Registered users will have free access to Focus content online during the month of December.
