In April 2008, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) once again won recognition at national level when it was awarded the Grand Prize Winner in two categories at the National Intellectual Property Award 2008 Ceremony.

In April 2008, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) once again won recognition at national level when it was awarded the Grand Prize Winner in two categories at the National Intellectual Property Award 2008 Ceremony.

UPM was announced as the sole Grand Prize Winner of the organization category at the ceremony organized by Malaysia Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO) and the Ministry of Local Entrepreneurship and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah, Vice Chancellor of UPM received the trophy and plaque from Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad, Minister of Local Entrepreneurship and Consumer Affairs at the ceremony held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

UPM also achieved a double victory when two of its researchers, Prof. Dr. Raja Noor Zaliha Raja Abdul Rahman from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Bio molecular Science won the main prize and Prof. Suhaila Mohamed from the Faculty of Science and Food Technology won the second place.

Apart from the two awards won by UPM, two other prizes awarded are the Young Designer and Industrial Design Awards.

This year, the expo, normally held on 26 April every year, was held in conjunction with the National Intellectual Property Day 2008 Expo from 24-27 April. Its aim is to promote a creative and innovative society and also to stimulate development in the intellectual property sector.
