USM widens network to Korean and India

PENANG, 7 May: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today widened its networking to two other countries with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Asia Pacific Centre for International Understanding (APCEIU) in Korea and Syed Ammal Engineering College (SAEC) in India.

Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, the Vice-Chancellor of USM signed the documents on behalf of USM. APCEIU was represented by its Director, Lee Seunghwan while SAEC was represented by the Secretary of the College, Dr. Chinnadurai Abdullah.

APCEIU was established on 26 August 2000 with an agreement between the Korean government and the United Nations with the aim of promoting education for international understanding. Through the MoU, APCEIU will collaborate with the School of Educational Studies, USM in research efforts as well as programmes that support the concept of education for international understanding.

SAEC was set up in 1998 in Ramanathapuram, India and currently has 1432 students who are specializing in areas that are closely related to engineering and computers. SAEC will forge collaborative ties with the National Advanced IPv6 Centre in the development of internet networking and computer engineering.

Also present at the MoU signing ceremony were Prof. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs); Prof. Lim Koon Ong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network); Prof. Abd. Aziz Tajuddin, Director of the Engineering Campus, USM; Prof. Abdul Rashid Mohamed, Dean of the School of Educational Studies and Prof. Sureswaran Ramadass, Director of the National Advanced IPv6 Centre.
