SERDANG, 9 Nov - Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) inked a collaboration with Sichuan Zhonghan Solar Power (SZSP) in a research to measure the performance of the three types of photovoltaic systems (PV) and review the suitability of the system to generate electrical energy optimally according to the weather conditions in the country.

PV systems supplied by SZSP, a China-based company is comprised of a unit concentrated PV, PV with two units and a reflector unit using a flat panel PV solar cells that can convert solar energy into electric energy.

Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr. Hizam Hashim said the PV system will be placed in a suitable location and the electricity generated will be applied to buildings in the area.

"We will measure the PV system within three months in terms of efficiency and power generation is optimized according to the weather conditions in Malaysia," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UPM and SZPV.

The MoU was signed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof.Dato 'Dr. Abu Bakar Salleh and SZSP Assistant General Manager, Hong Jiang Shu as witnessed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of UPM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato 'Dr. Syed Jalaluddin Syed Salim.
