Held on May 12, 2014, the symposium was hosted by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Technical University Malaysia (UTeM) along with the University of Malaya Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC), Tun Hussein Onn University Malaysia (UTHM), the University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and the University Malaysia Pahang (UMP). In conjunction with this symposium, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UMPEDAC and UTeM, UniMAP and UMP.
This symposium offered an opportunity for academics to share their ideas, knowledge, innovation, creativity and current approaches in renewable and sustainable energy issues. Participants discussed the most glaring challenges in the energy sector, which were identified as scarcity of resources, environmental pollution, energy supply to rural areas and the emission of greenhouse gases. These problems can be solved through the development of a working system, operational methods, processes and tools related to renewable energy.
The symposium was officiated by the Education Exco, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Green Technology and Innovation of the Melaka State. The organization of this symposium was in line with the Melaka State’s mission to encourage the use of green technology.
