Lingnan University Career Expo attracts a record 135 organisations - and first-ever on-site emotional support and career counselling zone

Lingnan University is hosting “Career Expo 2026 - Let’s discover the careers bettering you and the world!” on campus from 17 to 20 March. For the first time, there is an on-site emotional support and career counselling zone for local and non-local students as well as graduates. This initiative aims to bridge the psychological support gap for young people as they move from campus to workplace, helping them cultivate a positive mindset to meet professional challenges. The Expo has attracted more than 135 pre-eminent local and multinational companies offering employment and internship opportunities, setting a new record for participation. It will run online until mid-April, and enable a deeper understanding of labour market dynamics. Ms Alice Yeung, Principal Assistant Secretary (Civil Service) Appointments, also attended the kick-off ceremony held today and visited the government booths, and exchanged views with senior management of the university and students on career development.

Lingnan University’s Career Expo 2026 attracts more than 135 local organisations and pre-eminent multinational companies, setting a new record.

Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University, thanked the participating companies for their support in his welcome address. “The digital age has reshaped the demands for skills and efficiency in the workplace, and young people must adapt to rapidly changing work challenges. In recent years, Lingnan has championed interdisciplinary, whole-person education under the framework of Liberal Arts + Technology, integrating AI and data science elements across different disciplines so that our graduates are not only technologically competent, but also critically minded and socially responsible, and strengthening both their workplace hard skills and the soft skills of psychological resilience - equipping them with the essential attributes required in the professional world.”

Mr Wu Tak-lung, Chairman of the Career Development Committee of Lingnan University, encouraged students to look into different career paths and learn about their potential through the event. “Traditionally, we focus on what a career can give us: a salary, a title, or a sense of security. But a career that truly betters you is one that aligns with your values, strengths, passions, and visions. That brings out your best and gives you a sense of purpose each day. I hope students will use this opportunity to plan their careers from a fresh perspective and think about how to give back to society through their work.”

For the first time, Lingnan University has established a supporting zone at the expo to provide on-site counselling services for students in need, helping the younger generation face challenges with a positive mindset.

The expo brings together a wide range of employment opportunities in digital technology and social services, and offers internships across multiple cities in the Chinese Mainland to help students broaden their career horizons. Representatives from 15 government bureaux and departments, including the Digital Policy Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, and the disciplinary forces, together with banking, finance, accounting, business services, social services, insurance, and media organisations, were also on hand to introduce their companies and career prospects, enabling students to access the latest and most comprehensive information about the world of work.

Between March and April, the Office of Student Affairs and participating organisations will hold nearly 50 free career workshops and recruitment seminars. Topics will include ‘Applications and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Financial Services’, ‘Digital Foundations: Tech Skills for Tomorrow - Empowering you in a Tech-Driven World’, ‘Hong Kong Drifters’ Job Hunting Guide: How Mainland Students Cross the Mainland-HK Workplace Culture Gap’, and ‘Internship Excellence: Safeguard Yourself from Employment Traps’. Students and alumni are encouraged to register for these sessions.
