35 scholars from Lingnan University have been named in the latest "World’s Best Scientists 2026" rankings published by Research.com, a leading international academic platform. This achievement underscores the University’s exceptional research capabilities and academic contributions, gaining international recognition for Lingnan’s commitment to "Liberal Arts + Technology" and academic excellence.

The Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS) held a conferment ceremony today, 21 April, to honour two internationally famous scholars. Prof Arnold B. Bakker, a leading authority in work and organisational psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, was appointed a Lingnan Fellow. Prof M. Jae Moon, an eminent scholar in public management and digital governance from Yonsei University, Korea, received the title of Senior Lingnan Scholar. Both scholars are ranked on the Stanford University World’s Top 2% Scientists list, and this will drive Lingnan University’s endeavours in international research and collaborative exchange.

A joint research team between the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology (QIQB) at The University of Osaka and Fixstars Corporation has demonstrated one of the world's largest classical simulations of iterative quantum phase estimation (IQPE) quantum circuits for quantum chemistry on up to 1,024 GPUs, surpassing the previous 40-qubit limit. The result expands the scale of molecular systems available for the development and validation of quantum algorithms for future fault-tolerant quantum computers, supporting progress toward industrial applications in drug discovery and materials development.

Fujitsu Limited and the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology at The University of Osaka today announced the development of a new technology designed to accelerate the industrial application of quantum computers in the era of early fault-tolerant quantum computing (early-FTQC). By combining ver. 3 of the STAR architecture, a unique highly efficient phase rotation gate quantum computing architecture, with a novel molecular model optimization technique, researchers have significantly reduced computational resource requirements. This breakthrough will enable the energy calculations for chemical material design such as catalyst molecules, within a realistic timeframe using early-FTQC quantum computers. These kinds of calculations are currently not possible using current computers, and would take millennia even using previous versions of the STAR architecture. The technologies are expected to contribute to solving various societal challenges, including accelerating drug discovery, improving the efficiency of ammonia synthesis processes, and advancing carbon recycling technologies.

Lingnan University has achieved outstanding results in the international higher education organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2026. Nine broad and individual subjects were designated, and more than half moved up. Philosophy came in the top three in Hong Kong, and Computer Science and Information Systems is included in the list for the first time, showing Lingnan’s considerable recent progress in developing interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence and data science, which has gained widespread recognition from the international academic community. QS stated that only three Hong Kong universities have achieved a net improvement, with Lingnan University among the most improved.

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced today (March 12) the appointment of Lingnan University President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science Prof S.
