The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Guangdong Academy of Forestry (GAF), Republic of China, on collaboration in forest protection, forest ecology, tree improvement and medicinal plants in nursery practices.

The signing ceremony, held at FRIM on 10 June 2009, was attended by the Chinese delegation of five members led by GAF Director General (DG) Mr Zhang Fang Qiu while FRIM was represented by DG Dato’ Dr Abd. Latif Mohmod and Deputy FRIM DG Dato’ Dr Abdul Rashid Malik.
The FRIM-GAF Project Coordination Meeting was held after the signing ceremony. During the meeting, Zhang gave a briefing on the GAF’s objectives, functions and achievements and Dato’ Dr Abdul Rashid made a presentation on FRIM.
