The UiTM Innovation and Creativity Gallery
April - June 2010 - Exhibiting Drug Discovery and Health

Celebrating its 72nd Convocation 20 May 2010, University Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, presented a soft opening of its Innovation and Creativity Gallery (ICG). The gallery is an initiative proposed under the Innovation DNA for UiTM and Local Communities 2010-2019 launched by the Honourable Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Minister of Higher Education, in April 2010. It will draw on the collection of products and services created by UiTM researchers and inventors for the public, industry and their clientele to view.

The gallery will open all through the year but will present the works and products by the themes developed around UiTM Community of Researchers (CoRe). The CoRes are namely, Drug Discovery and Health, Green Technology and Sustainable Development, Frontier Materials and Industry Applications, Advanced Computing and Communications, Humanities and Quality of Life, Forensic Sciences, and Brain and Neuroscience. Having a theme for each display is to provide maximum exposure of products and services to potential interested parties from the corporate sector, and small and medium-sized enterprise.

The theme of the gallery’s first show is Drug Discovery and Health. The influence that drug discovery has on health as a result of contemporary research, along with its broader impact on mankind, induces the first theme. Thus this display will examine experimental and finished range of exhibits, made up of twenty-six products covering potential pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and nutritional foods from Malaysia’s biodiversity. They are brought together in the forms of devices and crafts that would have been used every day at work, such as preparations for dental health and exercise program for geriatrics; and sophisticated applications such as computer technology in healthcare, diagnostic kit for specific virus and post-operative patient support system. The contributors are from the Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Applied Sciences, Hotel and Tourism Management, Architecture, Planning and Survey, and Mechanical Engineering.
