UNIMAS student represent Malaysia to the International Biocamp in Basel, Switzerland

Malaysia Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) in partnership with Novartis Malaysia and supported by the Ministry of Education and Industry Centre of Excellence (ICoE), Healthcare Cluster hosted the first ever to be held in the country: The Malaysia BioCamp 2015.

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 12 May 2015 : Malaysia Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) in partnership with Novartis Malaysia and supported by the Ministry of Education and Industry Centre of Excellence (ICoE), Healthcare Cluster hosted the first ever to be held in the country: The Malaysia BioCamp 2015.

Top graduates and post-graduate students from all-over Malaysia in the field of life sciences and business administration were screened through regional BioCamp pitching sessions held earlier in Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak.

Two Master students Mr Mohamad Shamil Faris (FRST) and Ms Nurul Aqilah Aqiludeen (FMHS) as well as one pHD student Ms Pui Chai Fung (FRST) were chosen to represent Universiti of Malaysia Sarawak to the 2-days Malaysia BioCamp event held in BiotechCorp’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur from 5-6 May 2015.

The regional BioCamp aims to identify 2 local outstanding young intellectuals focused in the biotechnology-related research to join other selected students from leading international universities around the world at the prestigious International BioCamp that will be held at Novartis’ headquarters in Basel, Switzerland from 23-26 August 2015.

The program offers participants an opportunity to interact with renowned Novartis scientists, receive first-hand experiences on running a biotech company and learn about the medicine breakthrough to address patients’ unmet medical needs as well as a chance to network with talented students from other countries and getting in touch with the Novartis associates.

A lineup of distinguished speakers including YBhg Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid, Science Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of BiotechCorp, YBhg Dato’ Dr Mohd Nazlee Kamal, Chief Executive Officer of BiotechCorp, Prof Dr Abdul Hamid Adom, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Michaela Dinboeck, President and Managing Director of Novartis Malaysia and Razwin Sulairee Hasnan Temizi, Chief Operating Officer, BiotechCorp were invited to the Malaysia BioCamp 2015 to inspire the promising young scientists as they gain insights on the innovations in medicines, trends and challenges in the biotechnology sectors as well as learning on developing and launching pharmaceuticals products.

Winners are judged based on their academic excellence, professional experience and their participation in group case-study.
