Dr. Zulhamri Abdullah, from Universiti Putra Malaysia was awarded the ‘Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) Prize' international award for his paper which introduces a new discourse in organizational achievements based on Islamic values of ethical reputation and moral, and not on highest monetary gains.

On 28 March 2008, a lecturer and researcher from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Dr. Zulhamri Abdullah, won the ‘Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) Prize' international award for the 2007 university's researches.

Dr. Zulhamri, 35, won the international award through his research paper entitled ‘Beyond Corporate Image: Projecting International Reputation Management as A New Theoritical Approach in a Transitional Country’.

The award was presented by the Chairman of FUIW Executive Council, and also Islamic President of Azad University, Dr. Abdullah Jassbi, during the Official Opening of ‘13th Session Of The Executive Council of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World’ at the Kuala Lumpur Renaissance Hotel.

Dr. Zulhamri, who has worked for 10 years in UPM, is the Deputy Director of UPM Co-curriculum Centre and a lecturer in Faculty of Modern Language and Communication.

He said his research paper introduces a new discourse in organizational achievements based on ethical reputation and moral, and not based on highest monetary gains, as usually being used by the West all these years.

“An organization's moral principles, transparency, trust and credibility based on Islamic values are important in acknowledging the perceived achievement of the organization,” he said.

UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah said that Dr. Zulhamri's success is a significant acknowledgement by university councils from other Islamic countries on the capabilities of university researchers from Malaysia.

“The success raises UPM academicians at another level and pushes for further contributions on global research that can uphold the university and country's name as these kind of awards and prizes are usually being won by scholars from the Middle East,” he said.

Besides FUIWP, the FUIWP Prize, that is being co-organized by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), opens its participation to Muslim researchers from all over the world to contribute to the development of Islamic education.

Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, the Head of Director of ISESCO and FUIW Secretary General, also attended the official opening.

‘13th Session Of The Executive Council of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World’ was held from 27 until 28 March, 2008 at International Islamic University (IIUM).
