Malaysia and India Among Nations Awarded NIHR-UK Grant for Global Health Research Group on Dementia

Researchers from the Ageing and Age-Associated Disorders Research Group, University of Malaya, were among the member of Dementia Prevention and Enhanced Care (DePEC), one of the recipient for this prestigious award from National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).

A United Kingdom (UK) -Malaysia-India-Tanzania collaboration on Dementia Prevention and Enhanced Care (DePEC) was among the 33 research units and groups awarded the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Global Health Research funding totalling GBP 120 million in an announcement by the Department of Health in the United Kingdom. DePEC is led by Professor Louise Robinson from Newcastle University, UK. The DePEC group consists of researchers in the field of dementia from the United Kingdom, Tanzania, India and Malaysia. In line with the objectives of the NIHR global health research call, which is to improve the health of patients and public in low and middle-income countries, the DePEC research group will be conducting research on dementia in Tanzania (a least developed country), India (a lower middle income country) and Malaysia (an upper middle income country).

Funding from the National Institute of Health Research will allow researchers from all four collaborating nations to share information on existing efforts to address this condition as well as to develop affordable solutions for the care of dementia for lower and middle-income countries.
