SUCCESS AT R&D EXPO PROOF OF CLOSE COLLOBORATION.
94.4% of the 17 research products from USM exhibited at the 2005 IPTA Research Exposition bagged various prizes at the event. The Exposition was held at the Putra World Trade Centre for three days from 30th September 2005. The success is testimony to the close ties that exist between USM and industry as well as with other research institutions.
USM bagged 8 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 2 bronze medals as well as 2 special jury awards namely the Special Award for ICT and the Special Award for Best Joint Venture.
The USM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dzulkifli bin Abdul Razak received the propitious news while participating in the UM-USM Rowing Regatta at Putrajaya Lake today."I am indeed grateful and happy and wish to congratulate all the winners," the Vice Chancellor said.
He added that, this was further testimony of USM's excellence.Although the number of participants entered were few compared to that from other public institutions of higher learning (IPTA),almost all received due recognition.
He said that the University was proud of this achievement and hoped that it would serve as a source of motivation for further success in future as a continuum of efforts undertaken thus far.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Molecular Research Institute, Prof. Asma Ismail opined that this victory has indeed highlighted USM's achievements especially in the realisation of its cooperation with other universities as well as the success of university-industry linkages.
She cited the example of the success of her joint research, entitled Campy DNA, with UKM researchers and the HTRP research by Dr Ridzuan Zakaria who collaborated with MINT as fruits of such collaborations.
She added that,the success and recognition accorded via the special jury awards presented to Assoc. Prof. Sureswaran Ramadass for his research entitled Multimedia Conferencing System Version 5.0 (MCSv5.0) which garnered the Special Award for Best Joint Venture and to Assoc. Prof. Lim Chee Peng for his research entitled BioType: A Typing Biometrics Authentication System which captured the Special Award for ICT proves that USM has forged ahead in meaningfully actualizing its links with industry.
