Lingnan University has secured funding for 49 research projects in the 2026/27 competitive funding rounds of the Research Grants Council (RGC), including the General Research Fund (GRF), the Early Career Scheme (ECS), and the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS), with total awarded funding approaching HK$27 million. Of these, 48 projects were supported under the GRF and ECS schemes, marking a record high for the University. Funding secured under the ECS scheme alone increased by nearly 30 per cent year-on-year, underscoring the strong research capability and academic excellence of Lingnan’s early-career scholars.

Its overall ranking surged from the 101st - 200th band last year to 63rd place globally—breaking into the top 100 for the first time, and coming third of the Hong Kong SAR’s eight UGC-funded universities. Lingnan University has achieved another historic milestone in the newly released Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026. Its overall ranking surged from the 101st - 200th band last year to 63rd place globally—breaking into the top 100 for the first time, and coming third of the Hong Kong SAR’s eight UGC-funded universities. Seven Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were classed in the top 100 globally, more than doubling last year’s achievements. “SDG 4: Quality Education” has retained its position as number one worldwide, “SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities” has risen sharply from last year’s 101st - 200th band to 11th globally, “SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth” ranked 27th globally, and “SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals” came 55th globally.

Neural Drive, founded by SUTD first-year student Mohammed Khambhati Huzefa, has raised US$250,000 (S$325,000) in pre-seed funding from Afore Capital, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm

Lingnan University has achieved a major advancement in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2027, rising 120 places to 581st globally, its biggest jump in recent years. Lingnan recorded an outstanding performance across several key indicators, achieving a full score for International Faculty, ranking 34th worldwide, alongside a highly competitive result for International Students, placing at 76th worldwide. The University also achieved a significant rise of 211 places in Sustainability and climbed 64 places in Academic Reputation.

DGIST Partners with Sambo Motors to Advance AX Innovation in the Robotics Industry, Establishes “Joint Research Lab” to Support Technological Self-Reliance

The LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA Collaboration published today a new catalog of gravitational wave events. A total of 161 events, detected between April 2024 and the end of January 2025, have been added to the collection, bringing the total number of gravitational wave signals detected to date to 390. Among the most significant findings are: evidence for the existence of second-generation black holes, the most precise sky localization ever achieved for a gravitational wave source, and the first measurement of three vibrational modes of a black hole. A wealth of results that marks the coming of age of gravitational astronomy.

Lingnan University announced that its Teaching and Learning Centre has been renamed the Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITAL). This restructuring continues to support Lingnan University’s transformation into a leading liberal arts research university comprehensive in arts and sciences in the digital era, aligning with the University’s development and with the educational direction of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China.

The Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council Limited (DSSSC) and Lingnan University officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 19th May 2026. The two parties announced they will work together to provide systematic advancement support for non-local students in Direct Subsidy Scheme schools. This collaboration marks Lingnan as the sixth local university to sign an MoU with the DSSSC, showcasing the DSSSC’s fruitful achievements in driving close cooperation with local tertiary institutions. By establishing strategic admission channels and comprehensive transitional support, both parties aim to actively support and promote the government's "Study in Hong Kong" brand, jointly nurturing outstanding talents and enhancing Hong Kong's attractiveness as an international education hub.

- The DGIST startup UNIVA Corp. has been selected to lead a sub-project under the “AIxBio Innovation Research Hub Pilot Project.” - The company is recognized for its expertise in constructing STEM-specialized datasets and developing proprietary foundation models. - It is also spearheading the world’s first “zero-latency” end-to-end AI ecosystem powered by 48 NVIDIA B300 GPUs.

To mark the forthcoming 60th anniversary in 2027 of Lingnan University’s re-establishment in Hong Kong and the 140th anniversary in 2028 of its founding in Guangzhou, the University has officially established the new Lingnan University History Exhibition Hall on its Tuen Mun campus, and held the Opening cum Lingnan Education Organization Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony. The Exhibition Hall presents, through valuable archival materials and exhibits, the University’s development over a century, tracing its origins to its Guangzhou-based predecessor, the Christian College in China, founded in 1888 during the late Qing period. The exhibition offers students, alumni, and members of the public a profound understanding of Lingnan’s historical roots and educational ethos.

The prize, in partnership with Nature, will celebrate breakthroughs in mental health science. It aims to accelerate translation, influence policy and transform lives. This award champions new pharmacological, psychological, social and digital interventions from around the world. The overall winner will receive USD 1 million, and three finalists will be awarded USD 250,000 each.
