Dr. Jian Yan

Dr. Yan is an assistant professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, City University of Hong Kong (CityU). His current research focuses on developing genomic tools to dissect lncRNA function and mechanism in diseases and to identify genetic variations that contribute to disease pathogenesis.

Dr. Yan is an assistant professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, City University of Hong Kong (CityU). For his PhD in Medical Science at Karolinska Institutet (Prof. Jussi Taipale), he investigated the molecular mechanism of transcriptional regulation in colorectal cancer cells. He took his postdoc training at UC San Diego studying 3D genome organization and gene regulation. His current research focuses on developing genomic tools to dissect lncRNA function and mechanism in diseases and to identify genetic variations that contribute to disease pathogenesis. His research with Dr. Xin Deng (CityU) identified gene regulatory proteins involved in making the bacterium harmful against a wide variety of plants facilitate the development of new drugs against the bacterium Pseudomonas syringae, a common plant pathogen that affects a wide variety of crops.
