Host genetics-driven expansion of invasive Escherichia coli in the gut microbiome exacerbated tumorigenesis by targeting Hippo pathways to induce cancer stemness via CD44 upregulation. Mouse models of Apc gene mutation and bacteria-epithelial cell cocultures provided proof of concept that invasive bacteria derived from commensal microbes enhanced epithelial clonogenicity. Our data support the use of bacterial precision medicine as an alternative strategy for managing colorectal cancers, even in the hereditary subset.

Researchers at National Taiwan University and the University of Southern Denmark show that obesity in male mice raises let-7 microRNAs in sperm, which silence the enzyme DICER1 and impair mitochondrial function in the fat tissue of their offspring. Weight loss reverses part of the effect in both mice and men.

A groundbreaking study reveals how fine particulate matter (PM2.5) fuels bladder cancer malignancy by triggering Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) via the ERK/WNT/beta-catenin pathways. These findings provide critical evidence of air pollution's destructive molecular reach far beyond the respiratory system, promoting tumor metastasis.

Researchers in Taiwan have developed a cell-free extracellular matrix material from axolotl skin that helped mouse burn wounds close faster and showed signs of reduced fibrotic scarring. The findings suggest that one of nature’s most remarkable regenerators may inspire future strategies for burns, chronic wounds, and surgical injuries, but the approach is not yet a treatment for human wounds.

By engineering a bismuth thin film / twisted bilayer MoS2 heterostructure, the research work achieved precise bidirectional electron confinement without any applied voltage. Moiré potential controls horizontal electron localization; Bi film thickness tunes vertical effective mass - switching electron configurations between a trimer and a Kagome-like arrangement. The voltage-free confinement mechanism offers a material foundation for charge qubits and ultra-low-power semiconductors.

By quantitatively analyzing 100 soil samples collected across Fukushima Prefecture in 2011, researchers found that cesium-rich microparticles (CsMPs) were distributed over a wide area, with abundances ranging from 0 to 52.3 particles g⁻¹ and accounting for up to 61.9% of the total radioactivity in some samples. Their results further revealed that most CsMPs originated from a single radioactive plume released on 15 March 2011, whereas later emissions contained mainly water-soluble cesium rather than particulate CsMPs.

Researchers at National Taiwan University and partner institutions, led by research associate Dr. Raúl Tapia and Associate Professor Sze Ling Ho at the Institute of Oceanography, have uncovered new evidence that Antarctic Intermediate Water (AAIW) — a distinct layer sitting 500–1,500 meters below the ocean surface — played a pivotal role in a major atmospheric carbon dioxide transition that occurred roughly 450,000 years ago. The findings, published in Science Advances, challenge the prevailing view that changes in the deepest layers of the Southern Ocean alone drove this shift, and point instead to intermediate-depth circulation as a previously underestimated regulator of Earth’s carbon cycle.
